Naturalistic Itinerary - LE FERRIERE

Following in the footsteps of the Etruscans a rolling valley joins Cerveteri to Bracciano. The itinerary may start from the archaeological area of the Banditaccia following on to the new cemetery to the area called the Vignali. From here to the only evidence remaining of the entrance into the Etruscan city, the Porta Coperta, which leads into the necropolis of the Cava della Pozzolana. The path leads into a gorge of luxuriant vegetation and goes along past the locality of Montelungo to Le Ferriere a natural waterfall running from the Moat of the Mola, where there are visible remains of a building situated on an ancient Etruscan site.

A characteristic of this area are the number of beautiful waterfalls with one of the most breathtaking gushing into a clear pool below. The small passage down the rocks to the lower waterfall is slippery when wet and the area could be made safer by attaching a piece of cord as a handrail to assist visitors. The Moat of the Mola therefore offers a magnificent tour in a striking and untouched environment. It is recommended that the tour be accompanied with the help of a map and/or a experienced local guide. Visitors should wear sturdy, waterproof shoes.

Naturalistic Itinerary - I COSTONI DEL SASSO

A few kilometres from Via Aurelia, in the zone of Sasso di Furbara there are two trachytic cliff formations, surrounded by a landscape boasting a wonderful view of the coast from Fiumicino to Civitavecchia. The so called base of Sassone can be reached after leaving the car on the road which leads to Sasso, crossing over the stream and the fields and from there one can follow the base of the cliffs around to the lowest point a popular place where rock climbers start their climbs up the cliffs. Climbing up the cliff to the top you can reach the summit of the second one which dominates over a luxurious area of natural Mediterranean fauna. The trachytic nature of the cliffs make the two peaks seem like a sort of small Dolomites in Lazio
